Recruitment is finally here!!
Yes, it is that time of year when the girls dress up and prance from party to party, talking to countless girls in a speed dating like fashion, trying to decide where they must feel "at home". And this year, I get to be on the other side of the process, on the inside. I cannot believe it was one year ago, Monday that I myself received a bid from Delta Gamma! Last week was full of seemingly endless practices (think 5pm-11pm) and shameless advertising of our letters around campus via adorable, matching tank tops and tshirts.

All the clapping, smiling, cheering, mock conversations, and sisterly bonding has led up to these next few days of formal recruitment. Formal recruitment started Friday night and will wrap up on Sunday morning when we will welcome our new Delta Gamma babies. I was so nervous yesterday evening before the first party, but by the end of the night I really didn't want it to end. After all the potential new members had gone home, we stayed around and danced and danced...and danced, gotta love impromptu dance parties with your sissies!

ALSO: Here are a few pictures from a sisterhood event we had in Forest Park last weekend on Labor Day. It was so nice to eat lunch and just nap in the sun with the girls. Unfortunately, the sprinklers came on and broke up the party, haha! It was quite a scene...
ORIFLAMME: After 3 days of training, which was actually a lot of fun, came the dreaded...MOVE IN DAY(s). Wednesday morning, August 24th, 8:00am to 6:00pm our team in the orange shirts were slamming the new freshmen and their families with a wall of enthusiasm as soon as they entered the parking lot! And kept up the excitement as we lugged boxes, bags, tvs, futons, and mini fridges up and down flights of stairs and into their new "home". It was "fun"...for the first 15 minutes. Not gunna lie, the enthusiasm was indeed fabricated and I was dying a little bit inside every time I had to walk up to the fifth floor of the dorm building, from basement level (not to mention, we were under heat advisory and the heat index was between 107 and 115 all day).

Somehow I made it through the day and onto the next...Thursday was much nicer weather and we only had to work 8:00-1:00! That night began the festivities of Welcome Week, a time when the freshmen have the campus to their selves and awesome activities coordinated for them. Here are a few pictures from different events:

And then there was the always anticipated: Spirit Competition. This always occurs at the first men's soccer game on SLU's field. All the floors get dressed, painted, and fired up with the intention of winning the spirit award which was judged through out the first half. My floor, 10G, had such a creative theme: 5C's funeral service (5C has been the reigning champions of the spirit competition for 4 or 5 years now). We had a choir, a trumpet player, a preacher, and the clergy. When we got to the stadium, the freshmen looked amazing! Although our floor did not win the spirit competition, 5C didn't either...and that's all anyone really cared about anyways, haha.
While the first half against Louisville was close (1-1) I was more concerned with what was coming next: the half time show. Now a handful of my friends and family members were aware of this, but let me break it down for those who didn't hear...mid-summer I received an e-mail from the directors of Oriflamme announcing that WE would be the halftime entertainment in the form of a flash mob. We were required to learn the dance and practice/PERFECT it with the school dance team. Since I am almost sure the dance team picked out the song, this dance was not made for a beginner dancer (which was what we all were), this routine was for the pros! The time had finally come and the music started and we ran onto the field and within 3 minutes, it was over with, haha! We were so excited once we had pulled it off and all the practice sessions really did pay off! Here's a (very) low quality video of the routine, after everyone had gotten onto the field:

P.S. I am in the line to the right of center field in the VERY back, behind a girl in a pink tutu. When the lines split up, I am dancing literally RIGHT in front of the Billiken. Enjoy
