A massive ice/snow storm blew through St. Louis the night of January 31 and such severe conditions were expected that Saint Louis University called of classes for the first time in 16 years!!! For 2 and 1/2 DAYS (afternoon of the 31st-Febuary 2nd)!!! Of course, most of these days were spent indoors, at the gym, watching netflix, and putting off all homework and studies. On Wednesday we finally ventured outdoors to play in the snow and attempt our first snow man. As soon as we started I could tell the snow was way too powdery to stick. This was not "packing snow" (yes, I'm picking up on wintery lingo). But Angie was quite determined, and thus became our first snowman.

Later on that week (thusday night 10:30 pm) Angie, our friend Meggie, and I randomly decided to go sledding in Forest Park on Art Hill! Angie and I were so excited! We had wanted to go sledding all season. So we loaded up into Meggie's car, stopped by her house to search for household items that could double as sleds, then hit The Hill. It was surprisingly populated with kids our age flying down the hill and warming themselves by a bonfire set up at the top. Standing at the top of the hill, my stomach dropped a bit... I had forgotten about the huge pond at the bottom, and there didn't seem to be much of an area that leveled out before the pond drop off. I was so nervous! We talked Angie into going first. She climbed into a laundry basket, we gave her a running start, she started sliding then....stopped. About 10 yards down. Our "sleds" were not very successful.

Luckily, I met a guy that GAVE us a sled he and his friends had found left at the bottom of the hill. After psyching myself up, I climbed onto the sled and was off!! What a rush!! I was screaming and laughing and then kind of whimpering as I threw my heels into the hill as I was nearing the bottom, I did NOT need to end up in the pond!! First run was a success, as was the second, third, fourth, and fifth...then the lack of insulation in my boots started to catch up with me. I could no longer feel my toes and I was getting genuinely worried about frostbite. (since I know NOTHING about frostbite, I didn't want to underestimate the chances of contracting it.) We packed up soon after and headed back to campus and into bed.
p.s. My feet eventually warmed up :)
