STL or Bust!

trying to figure out the trailer top

Ready to roll

All buckled up!
On August 17th grandma Ann, my mom, Randy, and I started our road trip to St. Louis.  We stopped in Dallas for the first night and got to visit with my uncle David and aunt Diana.

2 days, just under 1,000 miles, and too many pictures later (Randy is a bit camera happy) we arrived at the Elves Manor, an adorable bed and breakfast, tucked behind a residential area just a block and a half from campus.  The keeper was so sweet and had the kitchen stocked with organic treats and sweets.

Thursday night and Friday we pulled out the tour of the city: Ted Drews, the arch, forest park, the loop, the central west end, Duffs, The Cup, Union Station, and of course The City Museum.  Although Randy and I were kind of bruised up from crawling around the museum's tunnels and slides, it was a blast!  We celebrated mom's 50th birthday early with cupcakes over lunch and small gifts.

Saturday was all work: Move In Day.  This year I am living in a single in DMatt, the all greek dorm building.  I was so lucky to get the spot in a single, and felt even luckier that Saturday, when I had Randy and my family to help me move in!  After (almost) everything was put in it's place, we all sat down and toasted our hard work :)  Sunday started my first day of training for Oriflamme (an organization of student volunteers that move in the Freshmen and lead them through Welcome Week activities) I was able to have lunch with grandma, mom, and Randy at a local favorite, Pickleman's, before they started their trip back home. Here are some more photos from the weekend...
thanks a lot..

Finally into MO!

Just a Blurb About Summer..

Our Instructor, Program Assistant, Office Manager (Me!), and Site Director @ the PREP Staff Appreciation Dinner

So as many of y'all know, I was home for the summer working for the Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (PREP) as an office manager by day, and taking orders at Jason's Deli by night.  Before I started working though, my best friend, Marissa, my mom, and I spent a girls weekend together which included a day trip to Austin to see a crowd favorite...BATS! BATS! and more BATS!
our "BATS!" faces
We (my brothers, mom, and I) also got to make a short weekend trip to Dallas to visit my aunt and uncle and had some majorrr Prius issues on the way up.  Although I'm sure the repairs cost a pretty penny, I always find it enjoyable to watch my mom freak/work under pressure.  While in Dallas, we all went to see an exhibit about the Guanajuato Mummies (click the link to learn more about the bizarre history!)

At the very end of the summer, I was blessed to be asked by the space lab team to join them at the SmallSatellite conference in Logan, UT for 10 days!  I joined this team in the Spring semester to help develop and build a small (10 cm by 10cm by 10cm) cube satellite called COPPER.  We are currently set to launch COPPER in June of 2012 through NASA's ELaNa mission.  The conference was a wonderful experience, and we did some great networking!

Had to make sure the little guy would fit into it's launch container

Although the summer went by too too fast, I am looking forward to the upcoming school year!
